Conditioned Games
Game-realistic scenarios with constraints that train specific behaviours.
About this drill
Conditioned games are small-sided matches with rules layered on to provoke the behaviours you want to develop. The constraints (touch limits, scoring zones, mandatory passes) shape decisions without removing match realism.
Key points
- 4v4 up to 9v9 depending on session objective
- Use goals at both ends for full game flow
- Layer conditions: mandatory switch before scoring, X passes required, etc.
- Track session output: goals, shots, possession turnovers
Coaching focus
- Reading and reacting to the condition's intent
- Maintaining team shape under pressure
- Quality of transitions on possession changes
